Exercise Science & Athletic Training

The School of Exercise Science & Athletic Training at West Virginia Wesleyan College prepares students for diverse careers and graduate studies in fields such as athletic training, exercise physiology, sports medicine, fitness management, and allied health. The program offers three distinct areas of study: Exercise Science, Health and Human Performance, and a unique 5-Year Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program. Students in the Exercise Science track gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on laboratory skills in areas like metabolic testing, performance enhancement, and exercise prescription, preparing them for research or pre-professional tracks (pre-medicine, pre-physical therapy, etc.). The Health and Human Performance track focuses on preparing students for careers in community and corporate wellness, personal training, coaching, and medical sales, emphasizing lifestyle health choices. The 5-Year MAT program allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Athletic Training. This integrated program combines classroom instruction with structured clinical experiences, preparing graduates to be eligible for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination and to work in various settings including schools, universities, professional teams, and sports medicine clinics.

Go D.O. Early Scholars Program

The Go D.O. Early Scholars Program is a unique partnership between West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM). This program offers qualifying WVWC students a guaranteed acceptance into WVSOM upon successful completion of their undergraduate program requirements and interview, with a waived MCAT exam. This initiative is designed for students passionate about pursuing a career in osteopathic medicine, particularly those interested in serving underserved areas and addressing health disparities. The program allows students to focus more on their academic studies, community service, clinical volunteering, and research, rather than solely on MCAT preparation. WVWC, a private liberal arts and sciences college founded in 1890, is located in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
