Social Work, Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work program equips students with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for generalist social work practice. The curriculum addresses critical societal issues such as racism, injustice, and individual/family problems. You will explore ethics, human behavior, social policy, and research methods, preparing you for careers in mental health, child welfare, healthcare, and beyond. The program emphasizes anti-racism, anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote human and community well-being and social justice. The program focuses on building a strong understanding of human experiences through scientific inquiry and theoretical frameworks, with an emphasis on the role of privilege and oppression. You will learn to advocate for human and community rights, working towards solutions for issues like poverty and systemic racism. The curriculum instills the core ethics and values of the social work profession, including service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, respect for diversity, the importance of relationships, integrity, and competence.

Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-Language Pathology, B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology program at Columbia College provides a comprehensive understanding of human communication and its disorders. This program prepares students for graduate studies or entry-level roles as SLP Assistants. Students will gain knowledge in describing speech and language characteristics and implementing therapeutic interventions. The program offers both on-campus and online learning modalities to accommodate diverse student needs.

Studio Art

The Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art provides a comprehensive education for students passionate about visual arts. You will engage in creating, studying, and experiencing art from various cultural, historical, and media perspectives. The program focuses on developing your technical skills across different art and design techniques, encouraging you to establish an emphasis in at least one specific studio area. This degree prepares you for a wide range of creative careers.

Trauma-Informed Education Programs

Columbia College offers specialized programs focused on trauma-informed practices, designed to equip professionals with the skills to foster resilience in individuals and organizations. Since 2020, the one-year Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Trauma-Informed Education has graduated over 470 students, preparing them for roles in educational institutions, non-profits, and other support systems. Graduates earn the title of Trauma-Informed Specialist. In addition to the master's degree, the college offers professional certificate programs and six-week online courses. These programs aim to guide professionals in implementing trauma-informed strategies within their specific fields, including higher education administration, first responders, early childhood education, and K-12 administration. The Center for Organization Resilience at Columbia College serves as a leading resource and advocate for these practices, aiming to create healthier and more productive environments.
