Bachelor of Education After-Degree

The Bachelor of Education After-Degree program at Brandon University is designed for individuals who have already completed an undergraduate degree and wish to pursue a career in teaching. This two-year program prepares students for full teaching certification. You can choose to specialize in one of three streams: Early Years (Kindergarten to Grade 4), Middle Years (Grades 5 to 8), or Senior Years (Grades 9 to 12).

Bachelor of Education Programs

Brandon University offers several Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programs designed to prepare students for careers in teaching. These programs cater to various needs, from high school graduates seeking an immediate path to teaching, to those who have already completed a degree and wish to pursue a teaching career, and even to practicing Indigenous educators or those with technical vocational diplomas.

Master of Arts (Rural Development)

Master of Education

Brandon University offers a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree with multiple pathways and areas of specialization. Students can choose between a course-based route, requiring 36 credit hours of coursework, or a thesis-based route, which involves 27 credit hours of coursework and a 9 credit hour thesis. The thesis route can be pursued after completing 15 credit hours, including two core courses, and obtaining departmental approval. Students can specialize in Inclusive Education, Guidance and Counselling, Educational Administration, or Curriculum and Pedagogy. Note that the Guidance and Counselling specialization is not currently open to international applicants, and the Curriculum and Pedagogy specialization for the 2026-27 academic year is exclusively for a community-based cohort. The program requires completion of all degree requirements within six years of the initial graduate course registration.

Master of Music (MMus)

Brandon University's School of Music offers a Master of Music (MMus) degree designed for professional development in music. The program is available in two streams: Performance & Literature, and Music Education. The Performance & Literature stream focuses on developing expertise in performance or composition, complemented by general literature studies and pedagogical practices. The Music Education stream is geared towards teachers seeking advanced study with a practical focus on elementary, choral, or instrumental music. Students must complete 30 credit hours of coursework for either route. The Music Education stream offers both a Research Project Route and a Thesis Route.

Master of Psychiatric Nursing

The Master of Psychiatric Nursing (MPN) program at Brandon University is designed for registered nurses who wish to advance their expertise in psychiatric nursing. This program focuses on developing advanced clinical skills, leadership abilities, and teaching talents within the field. Graduates are prepared for career advancement in various roles within mental health care.

Master of Science (Environmental & Life Sciences)

The Master of Science in Environmental and Life Sciences (MELS) is an interdisciplinary graduate program at Brandon University. It integrates traditional scientific fields such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, geography, and geology to provide a comprehensive understanding of environmental and life systems. This program is designed for students seeking advanced knowledge and research opportunities in these interconnected areas.

PENT Program

The PENT (Paraprofessional Educator Neighbourhood Training) program is designed for individuals working as educational paraprofessionals. Admission to this program requires prior admission to Brandon University under regular, mature, or transfer categories. Additionally, applicants must have a recommendation from a school principal, Director of Education, or superintendent, secure financial sponsorship, and pass Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry Checks.

Rural Development

The Department of Rural Development was established in 1999 to address the evolving challenges and opportunities within rural communities. It offers unique programs in Western Canada focused on understanding and contributing to positive change in rural areas. The department fosters a close relationship with the Rural Development Institute (RDI), providing a strong connection between academic study and practical application. The programs delve into the implications of societal changes affecting rural life and explore existing and proposed solutions. Students gain insights into the complexities of rural societies and develop skills to become resources for effecting change. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of rural development principles and practices.
