The Education Department at Wagner College offers a range of programs for aspiring educators, including undergraduate degrees (B.A., B.S.) and Master of Education (M.S.Ed.) degrees. All programs are designed to lead to New York State dual certification in general education and special education upon successful completion of program requirements, workshops, and state examinations. Graduates are recognized as effective and proactive professionals in the field.
The undergraduate major in Education is a dual major, requiring students to also specialize in Psychology or Theater. A minor in Educational Studies is available for those interested in education without necessarily pursuing a teaching career or who plan to seek graduate-level certification. Undergraduate students gain practical experience through field placements and student teaching at partner schools, collaborating with experts and community stakeholders to develop into well-rounded professionals.
Graduate students can choose from three M.S.Ed. programs: Childhood Education/Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) for initial certification, Adolescent Education/Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) with residency and non-residency options for initial certification, and Early Childhood Education/Students with Disabilities (Birth-2) for advanced certification. All graduate programs also result in dual certification. The department is nationally accredited by AAQEP.
