Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI 2030)

The Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI 2030) programme is a fully funded scholarship financed by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada. Running over 8 years from 2022 to 2030, BCDI 2030 supports students from 26 eligible partner countries to pursue vocational, technical, undergraduate, master's, PhD and short-training programmes at Canadian colleges, institutes and universities. The programme is built around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and aims to reduce inequalities and advance gender equity, with a target of at least 51% of recipients being women. Funding is comprehensive: it covers full tuition at the Canadian institution, round-trip airfare, a monthly living allowance for accommodation and daily costs, health insurance for the study period, and support for study materials and personal-development activities. All academic fields are eligible, with a focus on development sectors such as health, agriculture, climate change and education. Unlike most scholarships, individuals cannot apply directly: eligibility flows through project-based partnerships between Canadian higher education institutions and partner institutions in the 26 countries, and each project sets its own deadline. What's covered

• Full tuition — Complete tuition fees at the host Canadian college, institute or university are paid for the duration of the programme.
• Round-trip airfare — Return international airfare between the scholar's home country and Canada is covered by the programme.
• Living allowance — A monthly living allowance of roughly ~CAD$1,500 (est.) covers accommodation and daily expenses during studies.
• Health insurance — Health insurance is provided throughout the study period in Canada.
• Study materials and development support — Funding is provided for study-related materials and personal-development programmes, typically valued at several hundred dollars (~CAD 500 est.) per year.

How to apply

You cannot apply to BCDI 2030 directly. Selection happens through project partnerships between Canadian higher education institutions and institutions in the eligible countries.

1. Identify a participating project — Check the official EduCanada list of active BCDI 2030 projects and partnerships involving your country and field of interest.
2. Apply through the local partner institution — Submit your application via your local university or international partner institution that is part of the project, following its instructions.
3. Meet the Canadian institution's admission criteria — Ensure you satisfy the academic and admission requirements of the Canadian college, institute or university linked to the project.
4. Selection and nomination — The partnership selects candidates based on academic merit and alignment with the programme's development and gender-equity goals, then nominates them for funding.
