How to apply
Applying for the Academic Merit Scholarship is straightforward as it is automatically considered once you apply for an eligible course and meet the criteria.
- Step 1: Select an Eligible Course — Explore the range of courses offered at RMIT University for international students and choose a Vocational Education, Associate Degree, Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or Master’s by Coursework degree. Ensure it is not one of the excluded Aviation programs.
- Step 2: Complete Your Application to RMIT — Submit your application to study at RMIT University. Ensure all required academic documents are provided to demonstrate your eligibility for both your chosen course and the scholarship criteria.
- Step 3: Accept Your Offer — If successful for the scholarship, your offer letter from RMIT will be issued with the 20% tuition fee reduction already applied. To secure the scholarship, you must accept your offer and make the required deposit payment within 14 days from the date of your offer letter. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
Eligibility
CitizenshipBe a citizen of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste or Vietnam.
Application LocationBe applying from offshore (outside Australia) from one of the eligible countries. RMIT Vietnam students who completed cross-campus studies and immediately apply for the same qualification in Melbourne are not eligible.
Visa StatusBe an international student holding a valid student visa or plan to apply for a student visa prior to the course commencement.
Academic AchievementAchieve an Australian equivalent grade of GPA 2.5, 70% average, or ATAR 75 in your qualifying qualification at the time of application.
Offer LetterHold a full or conditional offer letter to commence studies in a Vocational Education, Associate Degree, Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or Master’s by Coursework degree.
Current Student StatusNot be an existing RMIT University student (existing ELICOS or Foundation Studies students may be qualified and will be notified after Foundation Studies completion).
Other ScholarshipsNot be in receipt of any other RMIT funded scholarship or Australia Awards scholarship covering tuition fees (applicants under foreign government scholarships, e.g., LPDP, MARA, are eligible).
Exclusions apply to the following degrees: AD023 Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) and BP345 Bachelor of Aviation (Pilot Training). The scholarship is only applicable to eligible courses and duration on your initial offer letter. If you change courses later, the scholarship may continue to apply if the new course is not on the exclusion list.

Selection
Scholarship selection is based on academic merit as demonstrated by your previous academic performance. Successful applicants will be notified through their offer letter. If you do not receive an outcome, your application has not been successful.
