How to apply
The application process for the British Council GREAT Scholarship is straightforward and integrated into the University of Kent's application portal. Please follow these steps:
- Apply for a Course at Kent — First, you must submit an application for a one-year full-time taught master's programme at the University of Kent if you haven't already done so.
- Receive an Offer — Ensure you receive a conditional offer for your chosen programme from the University of Kent.
- Access Applicant Portal — Once you have an offer, log in to your University of Kent applicant portal.
- Express Interest — Navigate to the 'applications' tab, select your submitted application, and then click on the 'funding' button. You will see a list of scholarships for which you may be eligible. Find the GREAT Scholarship and click 'Apply' to submit your expression of interest. There is no document upload required, just a submission button.
- Accept Your Course Offer — Ensure you accept your conditional offer for your programme by the scholarship deadline of 24 April 2026.

Nationality & ResidencyBe a passport holder and resident of Ghana, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, or Türkiye.
Fee StatusBe assessed as an overseas fee payer for tuition purposes.
Course OfferHave received a conditional offer for a one-year full-time taught master's course at one of the University of Kent's UK campuses and have accepted this offer by the deadline of 24 April 2026.
Start DateBe commencing your course in September 2026.
Academic & Professional EngagementBe active in your chosen field with relevant work experience or a demonstrated interest in the subject area.
Ambassadorial RoleBe willing to fully engage with the UK Higher Education experience, including attending academic activities and participating in extra-curricular events. You must also be prepared to act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education and the GREAT brand, promoting the value of studying in the UK.
Engagement with UKBe willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment.
NetworkingBe willing to attend a networking event with other UK-based GREAT scholars to share experiences of studying in the UK.
This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarships. Applicants for distance learning, PCert, PDip, or two-year courses (including those with a year in industry or integrated masters) are not eligible.
