This four-year Bachelor of Arts degree allows you to gain fluency in Czech and deepen your understanding of the history, culture, and geopolitics of Central and Eastern Europe. Simultaneously, you will develop fluency in Dutch and explore the culture and history of the Netherlands and Flanders. Taught jointly by the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS), this program offers extensive opportunities for in-depth, comparative, and intercultural approaches to the humanities. You will have the flexibility to choose from a wide array of modules, including literature, linguistic traditions, history, sociology, philosophy, art, film, and other aspects of the cultures associated with the languages you are studying. No prior knowledge of Czech or Dutch is required, but a strong enthusiasm for language learning and cross-cultural engagement is essential. The course structure includes two years of intensive study at UCL, a compulsory year abroad split between two countries where your chosen languages are spoken, and a final year of advanced study back at UCL, potentially including a dissertation.

The curriculum is structured over four academic years. The first two years focus on developing language proficiency and cultural understanding. Year 3 is spent abroad, and the final year allows for advanced study and specialization.
