Entry requirements
Current EnrollmentMust be enrolled at the University of Michigan during the summer of 2026. Students graduating in Spring 2026 and starting a U-M graduate program in Fall 2026 are also eligible.
Doctoral StudentsMust comply with Rackham's Additional Funding in Excess of Stipend Policy. Department authorization form required.
Project SelectionMust identify and partner with an IHPI member from a different school, college, or institute than the student's degree-granting program.
International students require on-campus employment eligibility. Consult the International Center for details.

How to apply
1. Identify Faculty and ProjectFrom January 19 to February 27, review the list of faculty projects on the IHPI website or identify a faculty member with whom you wish to develop a project. Contact potential faculty mentors between January 19 and January 31, submitting your resume and expressing your interest. Faculty will interview candidates to assess fit.
2. Finalize Project and StatementBetween February 1 and February 27, finalize your project details and your personal statement with your chosen IHPI member. The IHPI member must sign your personal statement, confirming agreement on the project's scope.
3. Submit ApplicationSubmit the complete Fellowship/Internship application form by February 27, 2026, at 11:59 pm.
4. NotificationApplicants will be notified of the review committee's decision by March 31, 2026.
