
The Master’s degree in Bioinformatics for Computational Genomics (BCG) is an inter-university program offered jointly by the University of Milan and Politecnico di Milano. Taught entirely in English, this program aims to train a new generation of genomic data scientists who can use computational methods to address complex challenges in biology and biotechnology. The program is certified by the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB). Over two years, students will gain a strong theoretical and practical understanding of biological processes at the molecular level, genome organization, gene expression regulation, and various genomic analysis techniques. The curriculum also emphasizes statistical and computational methods, including machine learning, for biomolecular data analysis, and modeling techniques for complex biological systems. The program is divided into four semesters. The first semester of the first year involves foundational courses tailored to students' undergraduate backgrounds (life sciences or quantitative/computational fields). From the second semester onwards, all students take mandatory courses, with 12 ECTS allocated for electives. The second year culminates in a 21-ECTS research internship and thesis project at a research laboratory.
