
The Materials Science and Engineering Master's program addresses the growing need for experts with interdisciplinary skills. It offers a scientific and engineering education drawing from seven university departments, enabling students to model complex systems, understand fundamental engineering principles, and apply probabilistic approaches to material properties. The program is housed within the Munich School of Engineering (MSE), which fosters interdisciplinary studies. The first two semesters focus on fundamental disciplinary knowledge in materials science, multi-scale models, numerical methods, and uncertainty quantification, primarily taught in English. Semesters two and three allow students to specialize in one of four areas: Multiscale Material Principles, Materials in Engineering Applications, Uncertainty Quantification & Mathematical Modeling, or Material Characterization, Testing & Surveillance. This specialization involves elective modules and is complemented by scientific skills and internship modules, including an Advanced Research Internship. The program concludes in the fourth semester with a master's thesis, typically written in English. A study abroad is recommended.
