
This PhD position focuses on spatio-temporal environmental data modeling and visualization. You will develop software and web solutions for analyzing and visualizing environmental data, utilizing Open Source tools and programming languages. The research involves creating algorithms for scenario testing within web-GIS environments, with applications in European Commission projects related to data harmonization and disease surveillance. The project is a collaboration between the OpenGeoHub foundation and Wageningen University and Research, offering a structured PhD program through the PE&RC Postgraduate school. You will engage in research proposal writing, publications, coursework, and networking with fellow researchers. The goal is to contribute novel solutions in geocomputing and geovisualization, optimizing modeling frameworks for timely scientific outputs.
This PhD position is part of research projects funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020), such as 'Geo-Harmonizer' and 'MOOD'. These projects involve collaboration with various institutions and aim to develop advanced data analysis and visualization tools. The position offers a dynamic research environment with opportunities for professional development and contribution to significant scientific advancements in geoinformatics and environmental science.
Experience with processing remote sensing images (MODIS, Landsat, Sentinel), solid knowledge of spatial and spatiotemporal statistics and time-series analysis, initial knowledge of FOSS (Linux, R, Python), experience with modeling and visualizing spatiotemporal phenomena, affinity for large multidimensional arrays, sufficient knowledge of geo-databases are required. Successful completion of the PE&RC postgraduate study program and publication of 2 articles in Q1 or Q2 journals and 2 articles in other peer-reviewed journals are expected as part of the PhD promotion.
This is a paid PhD position. The salary covers living expenses and research costs.
