The Information Science + Studies (ISS) Undergraduate Certificate at Duke University is designed to equip students with essential digital literacy and media authorship skills, considered core competencies for the 21st century. This interdisciplinary program appeals to students interested in digital and public humanities, library and information studies, computational media arts, and critical approaches to digital culture and computation. Graduates come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Social Sciences, Computer Science, and Physical Sciences. The program offers two tracks: Certificate 1.0 and Certificate 2.0 (Experiential). Students will engage in hands-on technology exploration coupled with critical analysis, participate in collaborative, student-driven projects, and undertake assignments with real-world applications that develop professional skills like project management and effective communication.
Entry requirements
Declared MajorStudents must have officially declared their major to enroll in the ISS Certificate program.
No more than two courses counted towards the ISS Certificate can also fulfill requirements for another major, minor, or certificate program. Pratt students may have additional flexibility in counting ISS courses towards their major electives. All students may take ISS courses based on availability, with ISS certificate students receiving preference.
