This course focuses on the design of new user experiences for Extended Reality (XR) technologies, including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR). It equips learners with a design thinking mindset and a toolkit for rapid prototyping of XR applications. The course covers the entire XR design process, from understanding different paths to becoming an XR creator to developing and evaluating XR experiences. It emphasizes user-centered techniques, ethical considerations, and practical methods for prototyping, both physically and digitally, including immersive authoring directly on XR devices. An honors track is available for learners who wish to create their own storyboard, physical prototype, and digital prototype of an XR experience, allowing for hands-on practice with design skills and new digital tools for previewing prototypes.
The course is structured into four modules, covering the XR design process, design thinking and ethics, storyboarding and physical prototyping, and digital prototyping and evaluation.
This course equips learners with skills applicable to various roles in the growing field of XR.
This course is part of the "Extended Reality for Everybody" specialization.
