Peace Studies

The Center for Peace at Hiroshima University is dedicated to the study and research of peace science. Originally established as the Institute for Peace Science in 1975, it was the first academic research body of its kind in Japan and remains the only peace research institute among Japan's national universities. In 2018, it was reorganized into the Center for Peace to reflect its expanded capabilities and its aim to facilitate research and education in Peace Studies within and beyond the university. The Center focuses on promoting national and international cooperation among researchers, accumulating and processing data related to peace science, and disseminating research findings. Its activities include public lectures, international symposiums, and the publication of research bulletins, engaging with critical global issues such as nuclear weapons, conflict resolution, and the memory of atomic bomb survivors.
