Ph.D. in Economics

The Ph.D. in Economics program at the University of Geneva (GSEM) is a rigorous program designed to prepare students for research and academic careers. The program typically spans five years, with the first two years focused on coursework. Students are required to complete 12 ECTS of elective courses and attend a specialized program for beginning doctoral students in Economics. From the second year onwards, students focus on their dissertations, which usually consist of three academic articles, and actively participate in departmental seminar series for feedback and exposure to current research. Admission requires a Master's degree in Economics or a closely related field. While French proficiency is not an admission requirement, students may need to complete additional courses based on their academic background.
