PhD in Epidemiology, Concentration in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology
The PhD in Epidemiology with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology is designed to equip public health professionals with advanced analytical and leadership skills. This program focuses on enabling practitioners to conduct high-level research, particularly for state and local public health agencies. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of reproductive, perinatal, and pediatric epidemiology, alongside the analytic capabilities needed for data-driven decision-making to improve the health outcomes of women, children, and families. The curriculum emphasizes turning data into actionable information to foster well-being within these populations.
The concentration is a collaborative effort between the divisions of Community Health Sciences and Epidemiology and Biostatistics, coordinated by the UIC Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health. This center is one of only 13 nationwide funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services, with a mission to train professionals to address health inequities. The program's approach is rigorous, evidence-based, and rooted in social justice, practical experience, and community collaboration, aiming to develop local to global leaders in maternal and child health.
