Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering

The Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering is a two-year graduate program offered by the ANU College of Systems and Society. Master of Philosophy, Research School of Humanities and the Arts

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a two-year research-focused degree offered by the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. This program is designed for students who wish to undertake in-depth independent research under expert supervision, contributing original work to their chosen field. The MPhil involves the submission and examination of a thesis, which can be up to 60,000 words. In some cases, with approval, the thesis may take an alternative form, such as a performance or a body of creative work. Students will also complete at least 12 units of coursework, focusing on research methodologies and theories relevant to their thesis topic.

Programming Fundamentals

This graduate course, offered by the School of Computing, is designed for postgraduate students who have no prior programming background. It aims to provide a strong foundation in programming principles before students move on to more advanced topics. The course will guide you through the fundamentals of structured programming using an industrial-strength object-oriented programming language. You will learn to think computationally, understand how computer programs execute, and develop essential problem-solving skills. This includes designing algorithms, writing, testing, and debugging code. The course also covers the use of standard data structures like lists, trees, and hash tables, and introduces basic concepts of algorithmic complexity analysis.

Research Methods for Earth Sciences

This course provides an introduction to the research methods essential for Earth Sciences. Through lectures, seminars, and workshops, you will learn to plan, manage, and present scientific research effectively. Key skills developed include computational methods, data acquisition, and data analysis, preparing you for advanced study and research projects. It is a fundamental preparatory course for Honours programs in Earth and Marine Science and Physics of the Earth.

Songwriting: Concepts and Craft

This undergraduate course, Songwriting: Concepts and Craft, offered by the School of Music, focuses on developing the skills and knowledge needed to write songs in various contemporary popular styles. It explores songwriting as a creative practice with its own history and context, incorporating theory and method. The course provides a historical overview of major eras and styles of popular songwriting, including perspectives from outside the anglosphere. Students will also analyze the musical theory and methods that underpin songs from these periods. The aim is to equip students with the ability to create their own portfolio of original popular songs.
