African Studies (M.A.)
The Master of Arts (M.A.) in African Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed to deepen scholarly inquiry into the experiences of African peoples on the continent, in the United States, and across the diaspora. The program examines critical issues within historical, sociocultural, political, institutional, transnational, and economic contexts. Students will gain specialized knowledge valuable for careers in the private, public, or non-profit sectors, and will be well-prepared for further doctoral study.
Leveraging a strong foundation in critical theoretical frameworks and mixed methodological approaches, the program offers three areas of specialization: Development and Public Policy; Africa in World Affairs; and Language, Literature, and the Arts. The curriculum encourages robust scholarly investigation across various disciplines, including arts, humanities, and social sciences.
