BA (English Language and Literature)

The BA in English Language and Literature at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) explores the development of English from Shakespearean times to the present day. You will study a wide range of poems, plays, and novels from different historical periods, as well as delve into the intricacies of the English language itself. The program offers modules focusing on how words and meaning evolve through the study of corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics. This program also provides opportunities to study English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), with students taking TEFL elective modules receiving a formal TEFL qualification. The department is highly research-active, with staff publishing extensively in national and international journals and with prestigious academic presses.
