English – Integrative Studies Option

The English – Integrative Studies Option allows you to tailor your studies to your specific interests within the field of English. This option requires 45 credit hours of coursework, providing a comprehensive exploration of literature, writing, and critical analysis. You will engage with various approaches to understanding texts, from historical and global perspectives to intersectional and ecological frameworks. This program is designed for students who wish to combine their passion for English with other areas of interest or career aspirations. You will develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing you for a wide range of professional paths. The curriculum includes core courses, specialized method courses, and a significant elective component, allowing for personalized academic journeys. An internship or high-impact practice experience is also a key part of the program, offering practical application of your learning.

English – Literature

English (Online) MA

This online Master of Arts (MA) in English offers a highly flexible approach to postgraduate study, allowing you to tailor your curriculum to your specific interests and career goals. You can choose from a wide array of specialist 'pods' (modules) created by subject experts to build a unique degree programme. Whether you're aiming for a PhD, seeking to enhance professional skills, or exploring English out of personal interest, this course adapts to you. You can also choose to follow one of the available specialist pathways, such as Applied Linguistics, English Literature, or Language and Linguistics. While a specialist pathway requires completing at least two-thirds of your studies within that area, you don't need to commit from the outset, and your Personal Advisor will guide you through your choices.

English (PhD or MA by Research)

English 4999E - Undergraduate Thesis

The English 4999E Undergraduate Thesis course offers a unique opportunity for final-year students to engage in individual, in-depth research and writing on a chosen topic within English and Writing Studies. This course is designed to guide you through the entire thesis process, from selecting a subject and preparing your materials to the final composition of your thesis. It involves approximately 25 hours of consultation throughout the academic year.

English and American Studies

English and Another Foreign Language (Spanish)

English and History MA (Hons)

This program allows you to combine the study of English literature with social, cultural, and political history. You will explore literature from the medieval period to the present day, with options ranging from Shakespeare to contemporary poetry and Victorian novels to Hollywood films. The history component focuses on social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period onwards, with an emphasis on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India. English and Maths Courses

Our English and Maths courses are tailored to enhance your skills for daily life, employment, or further education. Improving your English proficiency can significantly enrich your experience in the UK, aid in further studies, strengthen your CV, and assist with applications for British citizenship.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

This English as an Additional Language (EAL) program is designed to help you improve your English communication skills for living, working, and pursuing further education in Canada. With a focus on developing essential language abilities in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, the program also includes modules on grammar, numeracy, pronunciation, presentation skills, and computer literacy. Students benefit from small class sizes and available tutoring support, with various specialized modules to enhance specific skills. The program is delivered in a hybrid format, combining online and in-person learning. The EAL program offers several levels, from CLB 5 up to CLB 8. Upon successful completion of CLB 8 in all four skill areas, graduates are eligible to apply for other programs at Columbia College, sometimes without further English assessment. The program may be eligible for funding from the Government of Alberta for full-time or part-time studies.

English as Second Language Certification

Marywood University offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Specialist certification designed for current teachers and aspiring ESL educators.
