Design Minor

This Design minor program, offered at Hanze University of Applied Sciences through the Minerva Art Academy, is designed for Bachelor's level students interested in a study abroad experience within a vibrant artistic community. You will be integrated into a second-year Design group, becoming part of the regular student body. The program is taught entirely in English and focuses on allowing pro-active art students to deepen their intellectual and artistic development. The minor is an elective course, meaning you can choose it based on your personal interests and objectives from a wide range of design disciplines. The program is structured around the semester system, with one semester equating to a maximum of 30 ECTS credits. Assessment occurs at the end of each semester, with courses graded as either a pass (voldoende) or fail (onvoldoende).

Design, Art and Technology Minor

The Design, Art and Technology (DAT) minor, offered by Minerva Art Academy, brings together students from diverse disciplines to create projects that explore the intersection of art, design, and technology. This interdisciplinary program focuses on artistic technology research, encouraging students to critically engage with the societal changes driven by technological advancements. You'll develop both artistic and technical skills, fostering critical thinking about our rapidly evolving technological landscape and the use of digital techniques. The minor is ideal for students eager to "do stuff," connect different fields, and create new realities. This minor emphasizes hands-on learning and experimentation. The program is structured into five classes, starting with foundational technical skills, moving to experimentation and skill refinement, then a development phase for your own projects, followed by a building period. The final four weeks are dedicated to finalizing projects, which may be presented individually or in groups, depending on the progress made during the minor. The goal is to equip you with the necessary abilities to reflect on and utilize new technologies in creative and critical ways.

Fine Art Exchange Programme

The Fine Art exchange programme at Minerva Art Academy offers proactive art students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant artistic community. As an exchange student, you will be integrated into a third-year Fine Art group, fostering collaboration and a sense of belonging within the regular Bachelor students. This programme is designed to provide ample opportunities for intellectual and artistic development, allowing students to delve deeper into their creative practice. The modules offered are described in the ECTS course catalogue, and assessments are typically a Pass or Fail at the end of each semester, with no numerical grades awarded.

International Pop Culture

The International Pop Culture minor at Hanze University of Applied Sciences is a project-based program focused on developing your own artistic projects from practice. It requires students to be independent, take initiative, and be responsible for their work. The program is structured around a 'production house' model where teaching staff form a community of learners, providing a learning environment through presentations, reflection, research, debate, guest lessons, and excursions. You will develop applied knowledge and focus on artistic research, entrepreneurship, and project coaching.

Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design (iRAP)

The Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design (iRAP) programme focuses on interrelational artistic practices within social contexts. It encourages students to bring their own artistic practices and social issues into the programme. In a world often driven by quick results and external demands, this programme emphasizes the human scale, an open artistic attitude, and a critical, open-ended approach to working. Students will explore the meaning, value, methods, and potential of interrelational artistic practices in non-artistic settings, developing methodologies that are process-oriented rather than solely focused on final outputs. The aim is to create practices that are deeply embedded within and critically engage with their context, offering new possibilities for life and interaction.

Materials in Artistic Practices (MAPs)

The Materials in Artistic Practices (MAPs) Master's program offers a unique, hands-on approach to art and design education. This program views materials not just as tools, but as collaborators with their own stories, ethical dimensions, and urgencies. You will delve into sustainable practices, explore alternative materials, and investigate the interplay between physical structures and personal presence in your artistic work. The focus is on artistic research driven by process and awareness, rather than solely on producing finished products.

Pabo-Zorg: Bachelor of Education

The Research Centre for Built Environment NoorderRuimte is dedicated to practice-based research focused on the built environment in the Northern Netherlands. Our work is structured around four key themes: Earthquakes, Sustainability, Health & Well-being, and Liveability. We are driven by a shared passion for improving the design of our living spaces for people. Our research environment fosters collaboration among professors of applied sciences, researchers, students, and industry professionals, all working together to address current, real-world challenges in the built environment. In recognition of our commitment to excellence, NoorderRuimte Knowledge Centre was awarded the designation 'excellent' for the second consecutive time during the national assessment in 2025. We bring together expertise across multiple professorships, including Structural Safety & Earthquakes, Sustainable Built Environment, Climate Adaptation, Living Environment in Transition, Facility Management, Healthy Cities, and Real Estate.
